Come and sing gospel music, spirituals, songs of protest and civil rights, and music from the African-American tradition with other passionate kids and teens! Starts September 2019

Ages 8-18

  • Music: Like the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, the newly-formed Dorothy Cotton Youth Singers will learn and perform spirituals, gospel, and civil rights music. No prior experience or music-reading ability is required.

  • Rehearsals: DCYS will rehearse from 4:30 to 5:45 on Monday afternoons at the First Baptist Church.

  • Performances: DCYS will perform 2-3 concerts per year together with the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers. Other performance opportunities may arise as well.

  • Auditions: A short, informal audition is required to determine a singer’s ability to match pitch. Auditions will be held Wednesday Oct. 9th from 6:30 to 7pm and Monday, October 14th from 4:00 to 4:30. at First Baptist Church, 309 North Cayuga Street. Email epresto1@ithaca.ed to set up an audition. Enrollment is ongoing so if you miss these two dates, email Emily Preston to set up an alternate date.
